What the company does
Milky Mist procures raw milk and converts it into value-added products including paneer, curd, cheese, butter, ghee, ice cream, cream and traditional dairy foods. Avoiding liquid-milk distribution supports a differentiated mix but does not remove raw-milk price and seasonality risk.
The company operates an integrated manufacturing campus at Perundurai, Tamil Nadu, supported by a cold-chain fleet, distributors, retail refrigeration equipment and direct farmer procurement.
In FY26 it procured 396.15 million litres of milk from 74,654 farmers across 25 districts. Tamil Nadu still supplied 94.51%, while direct-farmer procurement fell to 74.34% from 96.61% in FY24 as third-party dairy-operator sourcing increased to 25.66%. There are generally no long-term supply commitments with farmers or most third-party operators.
At FY26 the network included 4,001 distributors, more than 3.75 lakh retail touchpoints and 57 C&F depots across 15 states. Southern India still generated 69.23% of revenue, though that share declined from 73.68% in FY24.
Paneer, cheese and curd generated 59.05% of FY26 revenue. Ice cream and yoghurt have grown faster, but the three established categories still determine a majority of product economics and milk balancing.

What stands out
- Revenue grew 31.3% annually from FY24 to FY26, supported by a broad value-added product portfolio.
- Integrated milk procurement, processing, cold-chain logistics and retail equipment give the company greater control over product handling.
- FY26 PAT rose to ₹127.01 crore and operating cash flow reached ₹301.79 crore, improving the quality of the earnings trend.
- A material portion of the fresh issue is allocated to debt reduction, while capex supports capacity and automation at Perundurai.
Key concerns
- Tamil Nadu supplied 94.51% of FY26 raw milk, creating weather, cattle-health, fodder, competition and regional-policy exposure. Direct-farmer sourcing fell from 96.61% in FY24 to 74.34% in FY26 as third-party operator dependence increased.
- Core production is concentrated at Perundurai. An accident, contamination event, utility interruption or regulatory shutdown could affect multiple categories.
- Southern India generated 69.23% of FY26 revenue, so national expansion still requires new procurement, cold-chain and distribution capabilities.
- Borrowings rose to ₹1,671.85 crore in FY26 from ₹1,036.72 crore in FY24. The prospectus debt/equity ratio was 3.61× before the offer's planned repayment.
- FY26 operating cash flow of ₹301.79 crore was below ₹469.72 crore of property, plant and equipment purchases, so expansion remained reliant on financing.
- Trade receivables increased 72.7% to ₹176.51 crore in FY26 while revenue grew 33.6%. Continued divergence would weaken cash conversion even if reported margins improve.
- Product-level utilisation is uneven: set curd, ice cream and chocolate were at 23.25%, 29.40% and 4.43% respectively in FY26, while recent capacity additions reduced paneer utilisation to 52.44%. The next capex programme therefore has to be assessed against category-specific demand rather than an aggregate plant narrative.
- The ₹496.86 crore debt-repayment budget covers only about 36.3% of the ₹1,368.54 crore borrowings identified at 31 May 2026. Several facilities also carry 1%–4% prepayment charges, so the net finance-cost benefit depends on which loans are selected.
- The 4.0% FY26 net margin improved materially but still leaves sensitivity to milk prices, discounting, freight, spoilage and slower plant utilisation.
- Food safety, cold-chain integrity, product recalls and shelf-life management can create financial and reputational risk.
- Only 17.33% of the Perundurai expansion estimate was covered by placed orders at 30 June 2026. Most equipment remains dependent on time-limited quotations, foreign-exchange rates, approvals and external contractors, and the proposed whey-protein and lactose lines enter categories in which the company says it has no prior manufacturing experience.
- FY26 auditor observations include 3% of parent PPE still unreconciled after physical verification, a ₹26.45 crore inventory difference between the March bank statement and audited books that was later revised, and internal-audit coverage and completion needing improvement. At subsidiary Asal Food Products, 21% of PPE remained unreconciled and audit-trail implementation began partway through FY26.
- Contingent liabilities were ₹229.01 crore, including ₹194.87 crore of EPCG duty obligations and disputed GST and other liabilities. The export obligations must be completed within licence timelines or could convert into cash outflows.
What to monitor after listing
- Post-listing price discovery, delivery, liquidity and spreads after the ₹181.45 first-day end-of-session value.
- Actual debt repayment, interest savings and post-issue leverage.
- Perundurai expansion cost, commissioning schedule and utilisation by product category.
- Milk procurement price, direct-farmer versus third-party sourcing and selling-price realization.
- Non-south revenue, distributor productivity and cold-chain economics.
- Operating cash flow after capex, inventory days and receivable days.
- Quality incidents, product recalls, farmer retention and geographic diversification of milk sourcing.
- Receivables growth versus sales and cash collections by distributor and geography.
- Utilisation of paneer, set curd, ice cream, chocolate and other recently expanded or introduced categories.
- Placed orders, foreign-exchange exposure, approvals and commissioning for the Perundurai programme, including first-time whey-protein and lactose manufacturing.
- Closure of PPE and bank-stock reconciliations, internal-audit findings, subsidiary audit trails, disputed tax matters and EPCG export obligations.
Valuation context
At ₹140, the issuer-disclosed FY26 diluted P/E is 71.07×. The post-offer share count of approximately 76.98 crore also implies a market capitalisation of about ₹10,778 crore, subject to final basis of allotment.
The prospectus peer set spans Bikaji Foods, Britannia, Dodla Dairy, Hatsun Agro, Nestlé India, Parag Milk Foods and Tata Consumer. Its average diluted P/E was 52.56× using 20 July prices, but brand strength, margins, leverage and product mix differ materially.
Offer price is about 5.0× the FY26 NAV of ₹5.87 and about 3.4× FY26 revenue on the indicative post-offer market capitalisation. The more important bridge is whether debt repayment converts operating growth into durable equity cash returns.
The critical valuation variables are normalized dairy spreads, post-deleveraging finance cost, incremental returns on the expanded plant and the cash cost of building a national cold chain.
The deleveraging bridge should be modelled loan by loan: the offer allocation is only a partial repayment of the May balance, and disclosed prepayment penalties can reduce the immediate interest-saving benefit.
